So, I’ve kept a pretty low profile for the past few months since I had Ellianna. It’s been so busy around here and I’m sure anyone who’s had 3 in less than 3 years can agree that it’s not easy. So, what’s changed? Everything and nothing! I was a mom before and I’m still a mom, but I’m busier and needed more. I feel like there are days when I’m screaming inside because I need a break and to be alone and other days I can’t get enough of these girls and want them all with me snuggling for the entire day.
As moms, there are so many things that we’re responsible for and have to be good at. I feel like I spend my days moderating my 3 year old and my 16 mo old because learning to share is HARD, and then there are the many tears that I wipe away because sometimes they need to be reminded that naps are important, I play nurse and remind the girls to love one another. On top of being a nurturer and a moderator, I’m also a personal chef for the girls and Ellianna’s only source of food and a house cleaner and educator. I am a storyteller and a singer. I spend time out shopping with all of the girls by myself and that for me is HARD – probably just as hard as it is for the girls to share. There are times when I have to convince myself to leave the house because honestly, to me it’s daunting to think that it’s 0˚ outside and I have to pack up the girls and put them into the carseats one by one – and then repeat that for every stop. . .and honestly sometimes I just don’t want to.
I try to spend late nights working on projects for me or cleaning. But honestly, I am so happy to snuggle with the girls at 8 o’clock and then have a few hours to just sit if I want because sitting is something I rarely get to do during the day. What type of projects? I’m usually designing something or sewing cute little outfits for the girls or doing their laundry.
I have survived 4 months with the three girls and honestly I love it! We get all kinds of comments from people who can’t help themselves when we’re out, but I’m at the point where I make my best effort to smile and think that I’m so lucky and they clearly have no clue what they’re talking about. I get to dance to the Moana soundtrack and sing all of the songs with the girls all day and play dress-up and have tea parties! I love that! I do miss getting out more, and so I’m hoping that once the weather warms up we can get out and take some walks and enjoy the fresh air.
At the end of the day my girls are so smart and amazing and they are my life. I love doing everything for them. Sometimes it’s hard, but everything in life is hard, right? And I feel like that’s what makes us better people and it’s how we learn and grow.
As for work, I am still working, but I’m only taking a very limited number of projects. I work late at night, after the girls are asleep and I don’t have as much time as I used to have, but I really love working, so I can’t stop completely. I have considered looking into teaching classes at a college because that’s why I went to graduate school in the first place. Even if things are quiet right now, the girls are only small once and I know that as they get bigger I can build and grow my business to be really full and busy again. . .but for now I want to be with my girls and help them learn and grow.
Here is my little family back in December – minus Madeline, who is away at school.
Happy Friday! Yes, you read that right, we’re going to have 3 little one under 3 years old. In just a few weeks we’ll be adding our last little addition to our family, making us a family of 6! I can’t even believe it.
The other day I was looking for new stockings to hang on the mantle for Christmas and realized that I need to buy six! We need a completely different style because, as much as I love our Rudolph ones, there aren’t enough designs for our family. So I’m on the hunt!
Madeline’s away at school, so it’s just me and the little girls all day. I won’t lie, I don’t think it’s going to be easy, but I hope they all become best friends as they grow up. The age differences are all really close. Penelope and Magnolia are 21 months apart and Magnolia and the new baby will be exactly 12 months. I do think that as they get older it will be a lot of fun as they’ll be similar ages and hopefully like some of the same activities and toys.
I worked really hard this year to make sure Penelope was potty trained and I also wanted Magnolia walking before the new baby comes and I can excitedly say that they have been made me so proud. Life will just be easier. . .and a lot less expensive without having to go through so many diapers. The girls of course have accomplished other things, as well, but those were the ones that were important to me.
I do love that I’ll be able to dress them all really cute. For Christmas we’re getting them a shared dress-up closet for all of the costumes that Penelope already has and I’m sure the other girls will soon have. Three little girls in tutus sounds quite adorable to me.
Like I said, I don’t expect this to be easy – I mean how am I supposed to get all three of them to the car at once? I’m pretty sure I only have 2 hands and I prefer to make fewer trips, so I think it’s just going to take me a little longer to get things done. I see a huge learning curve here.
I’ve really taken too long away from the blog and have had to think about what I wanted to achieve with it. I’ll still post design and stationery projects, as well as highlight some of my favorite items out there that are gorgeous. But also, because life has become so drastically changed over the past couple of years, I’m going to start to highlight a few of my favorite baby items that already make my life easy, as well as some new ones that I think will make my life easier this time around. I’ll also post some fun craft projects that you canDIY and maybe some fun kids craft projects, too. Hopefully this will make the blog more useful and fun and interactive, too.
So, I’m excited about this new adventure, as we add another little princess to our family. Thank you for joining us, as we learn the ropes and learn from our mistakes. I will continue to take on design projects, but I am taking a break from custom projects until after the new year. If you need monogrammed stationery or birthday invitations with a design that already exists, please feel free to send me an email. Happy Fall!
A year ago today I was in my hospital bed waiting to meet our little girl. Little did we know that she would come out and be just as spunky on the outside as she was inside. With her beautiful red hair and blue eyes and the sweetest personality ever, we have been so lucky and blessed. Today Penelope’s one and it’s really bittersweet for me because I love seeing her grow and learn every single day. She lights up with excitement when she sees new things and it’s so fun to watch! The other part of me is just really sad because I want to keep her as little and small for as long as possible.
Having Penelope around has brought a lot of changes at home and for Oh So Chic Designs. I’ve put a lot of thought into what I want to offer you guys over the past year and I’m going to shake things up. . .for the better. While I absolutely love creating custom designs and have focused solely on doing this in the past, I’ve decided to limit the number of custom orders I take and focus on selling my pre-designed collection of invitations for weddings, birthdays, showers and birth announcements. I also plan to offer a selection of Christmas cards each year. In addition, I’m currently in the process of setting up my store on the website where you’ll be able to purchase not only your invitations, but also coordinating wrapping paper, paper straws, plates, streamers, balloons and other party essentials to coordinate with your theme! I’m actually really excited to offer these products. The products I’ve chosen to offer are really fun and coordinate nicely. If you’re looking for great gift ideas, I’m also going to be selling my popular customized trays. They make great gifts for graduation, housewarming, weddings or just for you.
So, while there are changes, I hope that by offering ready made items, such as invitations, table numbers, place cards and other items to complete your events, I’ll be able to reach more of you and you’ll think of me when you need these items. I’m also still taking custom orders, but they will be limited.
I hope to have the shop up and running by next week! I’ll post the link as soon as it’s live, so you can check it out! Thank you all for helping me succeed over the years – I’m excited to continue to grow with you in the coming years, as well.
